Orange Orange is the independent project of songwriter/producer Ryan Basile, exploring his love for indie-alternative through his own expression, crafting songs entirely on his own.
Self-described as "alternative/indie about the self”, Orange Orange rocked his hometown of Melbourne with the release of the scintillating EP Study Period seven years ago, and has been working hard to create songs his own way ever since. Now, having independently released two EPs and two albums, Orange Orange has cemented himself as a firm part of the music community in Melbourne.
Ryan’s witty and considered lyrics reveal layers of tenderness and wisdom as intricate song structures and genre-defying elements carry the listener through soundscapes and emotions they never consciously processed before. Citing influences of Foals, Gorillaz, and Deerhunter, Orange Orange has made his mark on the local scene through live performance as well, playing alongside acts including Cry Club, Stella Farnan and Tamara and the Dreams.
The release of the first album Shame in 2019 proved to be brash yet bold – as a young Ryan confidently declared himself to the community as an exciting and upcoming producer, composer and songwriter. Moving through vignettes of emotions proved to be potent, captured through the haunting love story described in There We Go (ft. Ruby-Sofia), the optimistic acquiesce of Dermo-Creme (ft. GUS), and the live-changing epiphany in The Bigger Picture.

A strong independent release of 2023 – Orange Orange’s latest album The Sun Isn't Gone cemented him as one of the most creative up-and-coming artists in Australia – featuring for Album of the Week on SYN. Written and recorded in his own bedroom throughout Victoria's everlasting lockdown period, The Sun Isn't Gone finds Orange Orange in true moments of enlightenment in a climate of vitriol and uncertainty; where his potent, uncompromising lyrics are a guiding light.
Exploring new topics in his songwriting, Ryan's concern for the state of the world is only matched by his drive to rectify and improve himself and the lives of others. Between Granny Lands's feelings of hopelessness towards state corruption, Say What You Feel's plea for authenticity and Future Role's concern and resolve for doing good in the world – Ryan has a lot to say about the world.
Orange Orange will release The Sun Isn't Gone: SUPERNOVA Edition later in 2023.
